Why can I not sign in to my Hotmail/Outlook accounts? It says, "We can not sign you in right now. Please try again later."

    Dear Melodee Bonnes,

Thank you for reaching out to the Microsoft Q&A Community. I understand you're experiencing an issue signing in to your Hotmail/Outlook account and receiving the message: "We can’t sign you in right now. Please try again later." I am happy to assist you with that.

Here is a clear approach to help you understand your options.  Please kindly follow these steps to fix the issue.

Step 1: Check Microsoft Service Status

Sometimes this error is caused by temporary service interruptions.

Step 2: Clear Browser Cache and Cookies

Corrupted browser data can block sign-in. Please kindly follow :

    Open your browser settings

    Go to Privacy & Security

    Select Clear browsing data

Choose Cookies and cached files, then click Clear data

Restart your browser and try signing in again at Outlook.com

Step 3: Try a Different Browser or Device

To rule out local issues, try signing in from:

A different browser (e.g., Microsoft Edge, Chrome, Firefox)

A different device (e.g., mobile phone, tablet, or another computer)

    Step 4: Use Microsoft’s Sign-In Helper

If the issue persists, use Microsoft’s troubleshooting guide:

Visit the Microsoft Sign-In Help page

Please kindly refer to this link for further guidance : I can't sign in to my Microsoft account - Microsoft Support

Step 5: Reset Your Password (If Needed)

If you suspect a credential issue:

Go to the Microsoft Password Reset page

Follow the prompts to verify your identity and create a new password

    Step 6: Contact Microsoft Support

If none of the above steps resolve the issue:

Visit the Microsoft Support Contact Page

Choose Account & Billing > Manage Account Security

Select Chat with a support agent or request a callback

I hope these steps help you resolve the problem. If you require additional guidance, feel free to reply to this thread and I’ll be happy to assist you. If you found the answer helpful, we’d really appreciate it if you could click "Accept Answer" and kindly give it an upvote. Your feedback helps others in the community too!

    Warm Regards,
