Additional sign-in or account-related issues within Microsoft Teams for business
Hi @Jody Petersen,
Thank you for posting your question in the Microsoft Q&A forum.
Based on my research, the error you're encountering occurs because your device is attempting to authenticate using the deprecated KDFv1 algorithm when signing in to Teams (and other Microsoft 365 apps). As of June 2024, Microsoft Entra ID blocks KDFv1 for security reasons, resulting in the error code AADSTS5000611: Symmetric Key Derivation Function version 'KDFV1' is invalid.
If you're using Windows, please follow these steps:
- Update your Windows OS to the latest security patch (from July 2021 onward).
- Uninstall the old version of Teams from your device.
- Download and install the latest version of Teams from Microsoft’s official site: Download Teams Desktop and Mobile Apps | Microsoft Teams
On the download page, select the version that matches your operating system and follow the instructions to install it. By updating your Windows security patch level to include the KDFv1–removal update and then reinstalling Teams, the “KDFV1 invalid” sign-in error will be resolved.
If you have any updates or further questions, feel free to leave a comment under this post. I look forward to hearing from you and continuing to assist.
Thank you again for reaching out and for your patience!
