Bitlocker is not accepting its own recovery key. Says "The key doesn't match this drive"

Hey,

On my windows laptop when my external hard drive was plugged in. I have been promoted to encrypt my hard drive. Once the setup is done it asked me to enter the password to unlock the hard drive. Inspite of entering the right password it still throwing incorrect password error. So I tried using my recovery key which I saved as a printout. Even the recovery key on the printout is not accepted as a valid input. I entered valid recovery key for the same key Id shown on the prompt box but still the bitlocker is not accepting my input. Please help me recover data from my external hard drive.

I tried all the cmd commands to unlock my hard disk but none worked.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Thanks for the steps, we have performed the above steps, but my issue is not resolved yet.

Based on your description, here are Recommended Steps to Recover Access

1. Confirm Recovery Key Format and Entry

Ensure the recovery key is entered exactly as printed, including all 48 digits and hyphens

Avoid spaces or extra characters

Double-check that the Key ID shown on the prompt matches the one printed

2. Use BitLocker Management Tool Try unlocking the drive using Command Prompt with administrative privileges:

manage-bde -unlock X: -RecoveryPassword YOUR-48-DIGIT-KEY

Replace X: with your external drive letter and YOUR-48-DIGIT-KEY with the full recovery key.
