An Azure backup service that provides built-in management at scale.
Hello Anders M Jensen,
Thank you for reaching out to the Microsoft Q&A forum.
It looks like you’re eager to back up Hyper-V hosts running Windows Server 2025 with MABS. Here’s the current situation based on what’s published:
- MABS V4 RTM officially supports up through Windows Server 2022 hosts.
- There’s no announced support yet for Windows Server 2025 Hyper-V hosts in any public MABS release notes or protection matrices.
- Microsoft typically publishes “What’s new in MABS” articles when a new OS surface is supported—keep an eye on that page for updates.
At this point, there isn’t a publicly shared timeline for Windows Server 2025 support in MABS. You’ll want to watch the “What’s new in Microsoft Azure Backup Server” page; as soon as we have Windows Server 2025 support lined up, it will show up there with details on any UR (update rollup) or new major version.
In the meantime, if you need to protect VMs on Windows Server 2025 Hyper-V hosts today, you might consider:
- Using the Azure MARS agent on each guest VM for file-level backups into a Recovery Services vault (supported on newer OSes).
- Standing up a temporary Linux or Windows Server 2022 MABS machine, mounting the 2025 hosts’ VMs over the network, and backing up at the guest level.
Let me know if you need help planning that workaround or if you have any other questions!
