Additional chat-related features and issues within Microsoft Teams for business
Dear @Gavin Barnes,
Thank you for reaching out to the Microsoft Q&A forum. I understand that managing message flow and ensuring real-time communication is important for your organization’s workflow. I also recognize the frustration when a specific feature doesn't offer the administrative granular control you need.
To address your concerns regarding the "Schedule Message" feature in Microsoft Teams, I have outlined the current status and technical limitations below:
Can you prevent users from scheduling messages?
- Currently, there is no administrative setting or policy (within Messaging Policies or the Teams Admin Center) to disable the "Schedule Send" feature. It is a built-in client-side capability designed to enhance user flexibility, and Microsoft has not yet released a toggle for administrators to turn it off.
Can a recipient identify a scheduled message?
- No. Once a scheduled message is delivered to the recipient, it appears as a standard, real-time message. There is no visual indicator (such as a clock icon or "Scheduled" label) for the recipient to distinguish it from a message sent manually at that moment.
Is there an Admin Audit Log for scheduled messages?
- The Microsoft Purview Audit logs capture "Message Sent" events, but they do not specifically flag whether a message was sent via the "Schedule Send" function versus a standard send. From a compliance and auditing perspective, the metadata for both actions is currently treated the same.
While I understand this is not the preferred answer, Microsoft currently views this as a core productivity feature. I recommend monitoring the Microsoft 365 Roadmap for any upcoming administrative controls.
Currently, Microsoft Teams does not offer an administrative setting or a user preference to disable or hide the hover reaction bar. This feature is a core part of the current user interface design, intended to provide quick access to reactions and message actions.
While I cannot personally change the product design as a community moderator, I can ensure your voice reaches the right people. Microsoft’s engineering teams prioritize updates based on user demand through the official feedback channels:
- Visit the Microsoft Feedback Portal: Go to Microsoft Teams · Community.
- Submit a New Idea: Click "Send Feedback" and describe why a toggle for the hover bar would improve your productivity.
- Upvote Existing Requests: Search for "hover reaction bar" and upvote similar posts. This is the most effective way to help the product team prioritize this specific feature request.
I sincerely appreciate your patience and your input as we work to make Teams better for everyone. If any workarounds or updates regarding this interface element are released, I will share them with you immediately.
