Follow these steps to recover or secure the hacked Microsoft account whose alias was changed:

    1. Run antivirus/malware scan on all devices
      • Before changing any passwords, run a full scan on every PC/phone/tablet used to sign in to the account.
      • On Windows 10/11, use Windows Defender:
        1. Select Start.
        2. Search for Windows Defender or select it from results.
        3. Turn on protection and run a full scan.
    2. Try to recover the account
    3. If you cannot sign in at all
      • Use the Recover your account form:
        • Go to Recover your account and enter the email/phone/Skype name.
        • Follow the steps to receive and enter a security code, then set a new password.
      • If the form says the account/username cannot be found, or the hacker has fully replaced security info and aliases, there is no alternate manual method for consumer accounts beyond this automated process.
    4. Check and fix account settings (if access is restored)
      • After regaining access, review and fix:
        • Connected accounts
        • Forwarding rules
        • Automatic replies
      • Use the links in the recovery article to open connected accounts, forwarding, and automatic replies pages and remove anything you did not set up.
    5. Add extra security once recovered
      • On the Advanced security options page, add another way to sign in or verify identity (extra email/phone) so recovery is easier if hacked again.
      • Keep all verification methods (phone numbers, backup emails) up to date.
    6. If recovery fails and security info was changed
      • If the recovery tools (sign-in helper and recovery form) do not accept the information and the attacker has changed aliases and security info, support cannot override these protections for consumer accounts.
      • In that case, focus on:
        • Securing devices (malware-free).
        • Informing contacts that the account is compromised.
        • Creating a new Microsoft account and using it going forward.

To close or block the hacked account specifically, access is required; if sign-in cannot be restored via the official recovery tools, closing it is not possible from outside the account.
