Can't change my primary user email

There are two things involved here:

1. Account alias – This is an alternate email address you can use to sign in to all Microsoft services. For example, if you have a Microsoft account and you want to use another name (email address) for the same account, you can add an alias here:

2. Account security information – This is the verification method you use when you try to reset your Microsoft account password or access other security-related information. This is used to verify that you are the account owner is making this change. So, you will receive the verification code on your Phone number or recovery email and enter the code to verify your identity.

In your case, the message saying "already part of my security info" means that the email address is already added to your account as security information.

Ensure you have at least three verification methods active in your account.

No help at all. I don't have Account aliases under YOUR INFO.

The email address that is already listed as security info must first be added as an alias on the account, then set as primary; it cannot be reused in a conflicting way.

Use these steps to change the primary email safely:

1. Go to the Microsoft account “Your info” page at https://account.live.com/names/manage and sign in.
2. Under Account aliases / Your info, check what is currently listed:
   • If the email address is already shown as an alias, skip to step 4.
   • If it is only listed as security info (for verification codes), add a different email address or phone number as security info first so that the desired address can be used as an alias.
3. Select Add email and add the email address as an alias (if allowed). Follow the verification steps.
4. Once the address appears in the alias list, select Make primary next to that address to make it the primary alias.
5. If desired, remove or demote the old primary alias (be careful: removing an alias that is a Microsoft domain like @hotmail.com, @live.com, @outlook.com, or @msn.com permanently deletes that alias and it cannot be reused on any Microsoft account).

If the email address is already associated with another Microsoft account, it cannot be added as an alias on this one. In that case, either:

• Close the other Microsoft account (after moving any needed data) and then use a different address as alias here, or
• Keep using a different primary alias on this account.
