Entra: Branding theme Password reset display text won't update

I have a branding theme I created for a specific app that needs a different flow than the default branding I have set up for other apps. One thing I want to change is the Password reset display text . Instead of the default Forgot Password? I would like it to say Change or Reset Password

However, I cannot seem to get the text to update when I change it in the theme -> custom text -> sign-in section. If I change it in the default branding it seems to work, but I don't want to apply this text to other apps. I have done everything I can think of including unassigning/re-assigning apps, deleting the theme and recreating, and using different browsers and private windows.

Other things I change in the theme like the password reset URL and display message box seem to update just fine. I'm at a loss at what else to try.

In Microsoft Entra ID, this behavior is by design. Currently, the “Forgot password?" link text on the sign-in page originates from the default tenant branding rather than the application-specific branding theme.

Your modification only becomes effective when it is made in Default branding since the per-app theme does not override the “Forgot password?” label, even if you adjust the wording under Theme → Custom text → Sign-in section.

Thus, in your situation:

Default branding → Manages the "Forgot password?" link text.

Application-specific theme → The link label content cannot presently be overridden, however logos, colors, message boxes, and the password reset URL can all be changed.

Currently, a single app's "Forgot password?" text cannot be changed using a custom theme. Only tenants will be affected by the change due to default branding.

It is advised to submit a feature request or monitor updates through Microsoft Entra feedback channel if app-specific modification is needed.
