Hi, I'm John! I will help you with this.

To help narrow down the issue:

    1. Did this start after a Windows update, restart, or new software install? Do you see any error message?
    2. You can sign in but the desktop, taskbar, and Start menu are not working, or you cannot sign in to Windows at all?

If you are already on the desktop but the taskbar and Start menu are not responding, try this first:

    • Press Ctrl + Shift + Esc to open Task Manager.
    • Click More details if needed.
    • Look for Windows Explorer in the list.
    • Right-click it and select Restart.

This often restores the taskbar and Start menu.

If the issue persists, please provide more details by answering my questions.

    Regards,

    John J.D.

Try these steps in order to regain access to Windows and the taskbar/start menu.

    1. Wake or reset the display
    • Press Windows + Ctrl + Shift + B once.
      • The screen should beep or flicker if the graphics driver resets successfully.
    • Press Windows + P, then press P again and Enter to cycle display modes in case Windows is sending the picture to another screen.
    1. Check if Windows is responsive
    • Press Ctrl + Alt + Del.
      • If the blue security screen appears, select Task Manager.
      • In Task Manager, find Windows Explorer in the list, right‑click it, and select Restart. This often restores a missing or frozen taskbar and Start menu.
    1. Force a restart
    • Hold the power button on the PC for about 20 seconds until it turns off.
    • Turn it back on and see if the taskbar and Start menu appear normally.
    1. If Windows will not start normally If the system does not boot properly or stays on a blank/black screen, use Windows recovery tools:
    • Use Startup Repair:
      1. Access the Windows Recovery Environment (Windows RE).
      2. In Windows RE, select Troubleshoot > Advanced options > Startup Repair > Restart.
      3. Let Startup Repair scan and fix startup issues such as missing system files or boot configuration problems.
    • If problems continue, use one of the Recovery options in Windows that best matches the situation (for example, System Restore if the issue started recently after installing an app, or Reset this PC if the system is generally unstable).

These built‑in tools are designed to fix black/blank screen issues, startup failures, and persistent shell problems that prevent access to the desktop, taskbar, or Start menu.
