New Outlook stopped access to imap email account, askes for password but will not log on or let me into the app.

All passwords etc are good and working in classic outlook and I have checked with provider that their servers are working.

I have tried uninstall and reinstall but no good, still no access to app.

Please advise.

Thomas.

New Outlook is likely failing to authenticate the IMAP account even though the password is correct. Use these steps to restore access:

    1. Verify whether an app password is required
      • Many IMAP providers (Gmail, iCloud, AOL, some ISPs) require an app password instead of the normal account password, especially when modern security is enabled.
      • Sign in to the mail provider’s web portal.
      • Go to the account’s Security or Account Information page and check if an app password (or “app-specific password”) is required for email apps.
      • If required, generate a new app password there.
    2. Use the app password in New Outlook
      • Open New Outlook for Windows.
      • When prompted for the account password, paste the app password from the provider instead of the normal account password.
      • Complete sign-in and let Outlook sync.
    3. If the account is iCloud or Gmail
      • For iCloud, follow the provider’s app-password process and then add the account in Outlook using that app-specific password.
      • For Gmail, ensure the account is added using the Gmail flow and, if prompted, use the app password as documented in the Gmail/iCloud setup guidance.
    4. If the IMAP account still fails in New Outlook but works in Classic Outlook
      • Remove the IMAP account from New Outlook only (do not delete it from the provider).
      • Add the account again in New Outlook, and when prompted for the password, use the new app password generated in step 1.

If the provider does not support app passwords and only standard passwords are used, confirm with the provider that IMAP with modern authentication is supported; otherwise, continue using Classic Outlook where it is already working.
